Choosing Transfer Courses for Requirements

General Information

  • Any courses intended to fulfill UCSD requirements must be transferable. Check www.assist.org  for transferability (California community college courses only.)  Consult with UCSD Admissions for other transfer courses.
  • All courses taken at a community college will transfer as lower-division courses
  • Do not take courses that duplicate your AP, IB or other college credit
  • Send official transcripts to UCSD Admissions Office

UC San Diego
Attn: Admissions Office Mail code: 0021
9500 Gilman Drive
La Jolla, CA 92093-0021.
(It takes between 10-12 weeks for transcripts to be evaluated)

Community college courses may satisfy the following requirements:

Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) - BEFORE starting at UCSD ONLY)

If you have not yet fulfilled the Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) requirement, take an approved transferable writing course at your local community college before you matriculate into UC San Diego to satisfy this requirement.

  • View www.assist.org – UC transferable courses-English or Writing Department.
  • Under the UC Area column, look for “UC-E” courses, for approved ELWR courses.  You must earn a “C” grade or better.
If you have not satisfied the  ELWR before you start classes at UC San  Diego, you must have a Analytical Placement Exam (AWPE) result to enroll in a writing course.
